Better late…..

than never.

I have been a busy boy the last few days and have to sign 17,000(!) bookplates when I finish here this morning. That is not a typo...seventeen thousand, by August 12th. We are headed up to QVC Friday and Sunday and these are the stickers that will be in all the copies of Take It Easy offered this weekend.

I hope they run out.

We had some interesting travels this weekend. I won’t name names but the airline we were on rhymes with Belta.

We see the time at the gate to board is 10:15 so Brooke gets a Diet Coke, Bobby goes to the bathroom and Jack and I are playing around the gate. I was asked if we were on the Atlanta flight and told to hustle up, it departs at 10:00 not the posted time. I have a tendency to get anxious when I fly, I missed a flight earlier in my life working with mom and was scarred, another story for another day.

Anyway I get the family together and rush on board and we sit on the runway for an hour. Great. Jack has a limited amount of time he can “play” airplane and we don’t count delays as part of the day. We take off and circle around Atlanta for 45 minutes and are told the airport is calling off landings due to weather...we are going to Augusta. Huh? I have never been called off Atlanta in the 1000 times I have flown in there and for the first time look at my watch and think about the 6 o’clock showtime Bobby and I have in Nashville. We sit in Augusta for awhile and finally take off again and land in Atlanta at around 2 o’clock. Four hours to showtime and with the time change up there we have an extra hour. The folks from Nashville decide our best course of action is to jump in the car and drive up, a 4 hour trip. Brooke and I know Jack will do alot of things at this point and ride in the car for 4 hours is not one of them. We call her dad and he scoops them up and they just stay the night with them. Bobby and I fly (in the car) to Nashville, arrive at 6:10, tee-tee, slam a Diet Coke and walk on stage.

Ah, showbiz!

The show went well and the hotel is awesome. We worked till around 12 o’clock playing famous and after a cheese burger, I hit the sack. Brooke and Jack flew up early the next day we had a fun family day at the zoo and an early dinner at the Rainforest Cafe’. Jack has a new favorite restaurant.

On Sunday morning the weather cleared up and we knew it would be smooth sailing home......

A delay in Nashville left us 20 minutes to catch our connection home in Atlanta and while we made the flight our luggage didn’t. The same luggage that had Jack’s blankets in them. The same blankets he has to have to sleep at night. I told him if he goes to sleep daddy will bring his blankets home and he will have them when he wakes up, “I promise”. I drag my rear out the airport at 10 o’clock Sunday night and watch the carousel go around until oh, about 1:15. Drive home, let the dog out and guess what?!? Jack wakes up. “Daddy, blankets please”. Crap. I crawl into his bed and we toss and turn until he finally falls asleep and at 5 o’clock in the morning in his sleep he kicks me in the face. Hard. Good morning!

I got our bags Monday afternoon.

We got our first official books from Random House yesterday and they are beautiful. We wil be on QVC Friday early evening and Sunday afternoon so y’all tune and in and see what’s cookin’.

That reminds me....I have 17,000 stickers to sign.

Thanks for checking back, sorry I was late.
Do good things.

Back to the blog.

Hi Jamie,

Airline travel can be stressful, my youngest son had to fly to Amsterdam for business, so he (he lives in Reno) flew to San Francisco (our home) then onto Germany. His bags (with his notes, contacts, clothes etc..) went to LA. Needless to say we make a quick dash to the store, re-bought everything and he made it to Germany. Our oldest son is a airline pilot for a major airline (not the one you were on), we now all have pilot flight bags that carry everything one would ever need. We never check our bags, it works out great!!!!!

Take care and have a great week.

Hey Jamie!
Man, what a trip! I am sure you were glad to be home after all that.
I will be watching y’all on QVC!
Hope y’all have a good week and safe trip to QVC!

By Sherri on August 05 2009

What an adventure you had!  So sorry it was so nutty! But true to form, You and Bobby did not disappoint the many fans that were waiting for you.  I am amazed at how you treat people, you truly are the best.

17,000 book plates!  Are your hands cramped?  I will be watching QVC, but already pre ordered the book from your web site.

Flying used to be fun, it is just stressful now. I wish I could pack just a carry on.  I’m a girl and need to much stuff!!!!! It would be easier tho.

Sorry Jack kicked you, maybe next time the blankets will go in the carry on!!!! lol:)

So glad you are back, missed you alot.
Love ya,
Deb M

OH Jamie!! Hon I feel for you!!! We tried so hard to make down to see you but just couldn’t get the kids going to do the “meet and greet” but have a friend who lives in Nashville and got to talk to you.. She was very impressed!!!
The Rainforest Cafe at the mall is AWESOME!!! one of my favorites!!!
Try to have a nice week and try to catch a breath or two!

By Andrea L. on August 05 2009

Jamie,
That sounds like some of the travel I have had to do lately. Too bad you did not get more time in Nashville. Next time you go back there are a couple restaurants you should check out for Breakfast. First, The Pancake Pantry. They usually have a line wrapped around the building every morning like you have for lunch and the pancakes are to die for! You might even rub elbows with Vince Gill who frequents there. It is near Vandy and easy to access from the 40 or 440.

The second is Monells. They serve a mean Family Style Brunch on the weekend that includes Fried Chicken. (Yes you heard me right) and I promise you will not go home hungry! They have a couple locations one is in the Germantown area and one is in Franklin, TN which is just south of Nashville on 1-65.

BTW, any suggestions for a good breakfast place in Savannah?
Thanks,
Melanie

loved the show at opryland!  y’all were a lot of fun and held up well despite the travel issues.  i just wish one person from the audience would have been stuck on a plane, or in the desert, and missed the show.  i won’t mention what her name rhymes with, but her name is michelle.

You are a blessing to so many people...May the Lord shine His blessings on you, Brooke, Jack, Bobby, your Mamma and all your family as well :=o) Love and blessings Jamie!!!!!

Jamie,
Your blog made me laugh because we have an almost 3 year old son, Evan and he had a rough night the other night too - when my husband woke up the next morning, I asked him “how did you sleep?” he said “I feel like a mack truck ran over me...his name is Evan.” Needless to say, we can relate to the kicks in the middle of the night!
Glad you all got home safe and sound and I’m sure Jack was thrilled when his blankets arrived home too!

By Kelly on August 05 2009

Jamie glad to see you made it, Good Luck with the Cook Book sales. I have posted some earlier comments guess I am to much of a smart donkey for them to put them up, but oh well it is always in fun. One of these days I might get to come to your restaurant and eat, hope you remember, because I will probably be late, I did not know these blogs had a scheduled time on them, guess I had better get posting, either I am way behind or ahead haven’t figured that out yet. Take care sell them books ! I am looking forward to seeing this one.

By Cheft on August 05 2009

Hi Jamie,
You’re the best dad! I’m so sorry you had all that trouble. You don’t need that additional hassel especially when you have Jack along. I’m always so thankful if I’m at the store or something and my boys are going two different directions and someone helps me. So glad Jack has his blanket back. These things are very important - now everyone can get some sleep!

I’ll have to remember Rainforest Cafe. We haven’t gotten there yet. My boys would love it too.

Good luck on QVC, I’ll be watching and ordering smile

Jamie,

Sure have missed you, but it sounds like you & the family have had a rough time.  So glad everything turned out ok, but I still enjoyed the story.  I am still super excited about the new book and I can wait to have a copy in my hands.  Hope you have a great rest of the week.  Tell Bobby HEY for me.....thanks

Hey, Jamie ~ “Da Man”, “Da Daddy"…

Admire your blanket loyalty for Jack.  He will too (when he’s old enough to appreciate the drama)

Whew....your post flat wore my butt out...If it weren’t for Diet Coke y’all would be in dire straights.

17,000 bookplates...!  Woo-zer...man, you better get cooking with the Sharpie, P D Q...!

We’ll watch for you Bad Boys on QVC.  Those copies are going to sell faster than your mama’s hoe cakes smile

Jamie,

That was a lot of drama for one weekend!  I don’t know how you did it and still managed to do your show in Nashville.  But I guess you do what you have to do.  I think the Opryland Hotel is so beautiful.  You should take Brooke and Jack back this winter.  The hotel is decorated for Christmas with tons of lights and Christmas trees.  They even have a building with ice sculptures of animated characters and a big slide you could go down with Jack!

Good luck Jamie and Bobby on selling your book on QVC!

Have a good weekend Jamie, Bobby, Paula, Michael and follow bloggers!

By Sonya on August 06 2009

Hi Jamie,

Well that was a rough trip, but I’m glad your show went well for you. I will be looking forward to your QVC appearance, will have to DVR Sunday’s show. We have tickets to the DBacks game, they are playing that team from L.A.....oh yeah, Dodgers. Hmmmm...Go Snakes!! But I will watch on Friday and will order a book! Hope it’s a sellout for you guys.

Have a great weekend, Take Care.

Wow sounds so busy. I know you all are so dedicated and all its so wonderful just to hear the things you do. Airlines can be bad waiting and then not knowing but that is one of the drawbacks of flying. Anyways I loved the rainforest cafe its wonderful to eat and see all the things they have. I love to shop in there. I love my stuff animals even at the ripe age of 51 heeheheh. Love you guys and just be thankful too that you arrived safe. peace, laurel

Jamie - Perhaps your local Gulfstream factory could sign on as a sponsor and lend you guys a G550 so this wouldn’t happen again? What a day!

Hello from Valdosta State!

By Bobby Lacey on August 07 2009

I feel your pain with the flying. My very first time to fly was with that same airline. I had to fly to Boston for work and they lost my luggage. I left on Monday and was coming home on Wednesday. They didn’t get my luggage to me until about 9:30 Tuesday night. I missed the majority of my meeting because of them. Half the time they couldn’t tell me where my luggage was. They told me it went to Jacksonville?! I left Atlanta for Boston, how did it go in the opposite direction?Come to find out, they delivered it to the wrong hotel the night I arrived in Boston. We had to tell them where my luggage was and then they sent the same incompetent delivery service to pick it up and bring it to me. The only good thing I can say is that they did reimburse me for the few things I had to buy while they had my luggage.
Glad everything worked out ok for y’all.

My sisters little boy is the same way with his blanket. They bought several of them so that they always have one.

Dear Jamie,
Long time - no post.  It’s good to be back.
Yes - the joys of business travel.  I have to admit that I’ve been relatively lucky on Delta & NWA - but now for US Scareways - that’s a different story. My Mother used to work for TWA as a flight attendant back in the 60’s when you had to quit if you were pregnant (funny story is that the woman that tattled on her was pregnant herself).  They were weighed in, told how to wear their hair and what color of lipstick to apply and often wore three inch heels on long international flights. A job with much perceived glamour back then - my how times have changed. Hope to stop by the store this week to pick up a few of the new cookbooks and then have you all sign them on the 12th....Christmas will be here before we know it.
Still working to do good things in the Savannah community.  I just started the Savannah Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association. They have been trying to start a chapter here for a number of years.  We have our first meeting tonight - hoping for a great turn out.  Medea, from Crosswinds, has not only become a good friend but she has been a HUGE help given her connections in town.
Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you and your family at Uncle Bubbas.
Regards,
Hallie Currigan

Hi,
It sounds like you had a busy week-end. I wish I could have been there! But, I worked all week-end!
I love your pictures on your tweet website!Especailly the ones with Bobby! He’s too cute!!!  I can’t believe he is single! Keep up the good work!! Paula is looking Good!
When is the Deen Brothers web-site going to be up? I’m sure that will be my favorite web-site!

Well, you always tell us to do good things, well I caught a shoplifter last Sunday(On 8-2) at work.(Wal-Mart) He was trying to walk off with a 24 pack of beer. I ask him for the reciept for the beer and he didn’t have one. And are store don’t even sell beer on Sundays. So that made me feel good I caught a bad guy!
Well, write more at the end of the week!
Bye, bye

Hi Jamie.  We just love you all.  My son discovered you first and I got hooked.  Watch as often as I can ( when I can get my husband off the Fox News Chanel).  I have a question that has nothing to do with your blog.  Can oil that chicken was fried in be kept to be used again on other things?  I have just been tossing it, what a waste.
