happy Tuesday!
First off, thanks to Bobby for filling in last week for me. I just can’t run as fast as I used to I guess, although every now and then its fun to give it a try!
The wedding was one of the most beautiful I have ever attended. The message during the ceremony was a great lesson for the bride and groom as well as the married couples in attendance. The minister was very smart and laid out the important lessons and commitments that marriage brings as well as all the joys it can hold. The reception was at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island and those folks sure have it together. At breakfast one morning Jack said he was cold and the server showed up two minutes later with a beach towel that she wrapped him up in and said it would make a nice souvenir.... now that’s service.
This is the week of our big Deen Family Vacation. The first annual, maybe the last annual, whole fam damily get together. I say the last annual because I am wondering how successful we are going to be able to move 17 people in the same direction at any given time. I have faith and doubts at the same time.....I know these people you understand. I know we will have fun and I sure can use some downtime with Brooke and the baby. As much as we travel, and it’s fun, it is work and I will be turning my phone off for the first time in a year.
Over at pauladeen.com we have a new attraction, Get Cookin’, that has been built over the last year or so I guess and launched a few weeks ago. It’s a place for all of us to get together and share stories and trade recipe’s as well as see some behind the scenes video’s of backstage stuff that happens. I think the video up now is of mom on GMA a few weeks ago but keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming footage of mom acting as our make-up person for the last photo shoot Bobby and I did here in Savannah. I noticed Lisa had some comments about trouble signing up but I believe it’s all worked out now so sign up today and join in the fun.
I will be gone next week so no blog on the 15th but will be back in two weeks from today with all the details.
Thanks as always for checking back in.....
y’all do good things
-jamie

Hey Jamie! where are all of you going on vacation? The new resort on Tybee Island?
We up here in So. Illnois have a question for you Jamie, we have all heard about on your first date with Brooke you took the fork and napkin she was using and kept it until your wedding day and feed her her first bite of cake off that fork....but what we haven’t heard is HOW did you propose to her. We were all comparing “engagement” stories the other night and somehow the conversation turned to your mom and you boys and we got to wondering how you did the deed. Sorry for being a nosy thing but us girls would like to know.
Have a fabulous vacation. Hope you all survive it..Maybe it can become a “Deen version” of “survivor” lol
By Andrea on June 09 2009
Welcome “home” Jamie.
Sure was good to hear from Bobby, you know I love you too Mr Bobby, but missed you. Glad you are all better!!! There is nothing wrong with moving a little slower, can see more stuff that way!
The wedding sounds like it was beautiful. It is always good to be reminded why we get married in the first place. How did you look in your tux? You looked great on GMA.
Have a wonderful time at the first annual Deen family vacation. When you get back, will you be able to say where you went? I know you will enjoy time with your family, you all seem so very close. I would love spending time with those close to me, it really is hard to get together with all the different schedules. ENJOY!
Will you be celebrating your birthday? Or will you come home to Savannah to do that?
Get Cookin’ is fun… was hard to get into but once in....it’s great. Love all the different activities there, but still love my “time” with you here!
Can’t wait for all the videos on the new site. Will we be able to see your GMA footage? Any other TV clips that you and/or Bobby do? Can I make a suggestion? Would be a great place to see “all things Deen!”!!!!
Have a wonderful 2 weeks off, I will miss you but look forward to your return. Should have some good stories, 17 people in one spot!!! Love to all the Deen’s.

Hey Jamie, a friend and I took a girly trip last weekend to Savannah...we’re from Alabama and Louisiana, respectively. We enjoyed our lunch at the Lady & Sons so much that we went back the next evening for dinner! We’re sorry we didn’t get to meet you guys but I just have to tell you how much we loved our server, Haley...I hope I’m spelling her name right. She was so sweet and she did such a good job...she mentioned it was her very first night serving on her own without supervision so I just wanted to tell you how great she was to us. We even took a picture with her since we’d made it a point to take pictures of all the interesting people we met on our trip. Hey, since y’all weren’t there it was the next best thing, right? Anyway, the food was everything we thought it would be..the asparagus sandwich and chicken pot pie were awesome. We hope to see y’all next time since we’ve already decided we’ll definitely come back to Savannah. We absolutely loved it there.
Thanks and cheers,
Betsy

If you have one of those flip video recorders, take a little footage to share with us when you return.
We all wish you and yours a great escape from the day-to-day.Though (secretly) I’m certain we all wish the “vacation” were going to wind up as a taped Special ~ re: your precious mom on that swing line through the forest ~ that was a fabulous Special...!
“Get Cookin” is fan-tas-tic...!!! Love it...!!! And, the new condo on Tybee Island has got my attention...going to have to find a chance to book that and enjoy a little R & R with family. Great concept!
Praying safe travels for you and yours. Give us a holler when you get back ~

Hope your vacation will be a Deen Family show like the last one. I still have it recorded and watch it once in a while. It was hilarious.
Bring us back some pictures to share. Will miss your blog next week but know the one after that will be long, informative, stories and all that’s Deen.
Got to get back to work. Have fun. Bobby, enjoyed your profile. Now we know a “teensy bit” more about you. How about a little more or am I asking too much??? HA.

Can you tell me what a girl needs to do in order to start a lunch delivery service out of her home, like your mom did?Basically, I wanted to know, do you need any special licenses? My sister and I haven’t had any formal trining, but love to cook, and we get so many comments on our cooking. Can you offer any help in this area? Love you guys, and your mom. You are so lucky to be who you are!

Deb M, & Deen Family
I am great. Have you ever gotten a response from Bobby or Jamie? I would be so excited if they wrote! I wanted to see them so badly when I was in Savannah in March 2008. I was on a family vacation in Florida, me and my 2 boys, and I suggested to my brother in law instead of staying in Florida for another 3 days, I thought a stop in Savannah, would be the greatest end to my vacation, and I was so hoping to meet, Paula, Jamie, and Bobby. I have had a TV crush on Bobby for a while!
Unfortunatly, we couldn’t get in to the restaurant to eat, since the line was so long, so I just went in the Paula Deen Store and bought a coffee mug, and some Lady and Sons totes for my family. The store was so cute. I went upstairs too.
I come up to Chicago every now and then. I went to the 2009 Housewares Show, met Tyler Florence, and hoped to meet Paula.. But no luck. I invented a mixing bowl, I want Paula to see and endorse! But that is a huge “Hope” and I am sure will never happen. I know Jamie and Bobby would love it oo, to use in the restaurant. It makes things so much easier for mixing and pouring in the kitchen. Ok, I better get back to work, here at my barber shop!
By Angela Warner on June 12 2009
Hi Deb M and Angela I am from Illinois too! Southern Illinois, Have you ever heard of Carbondale? Home of the SIU Salukis?? I was born and raised there.I now live in a small town about 10 minutes away from there called Crainville. Nice to see other Illinoisan on here. Hi Deb M, an Andrea!
Boy it sure is funny what a small world it is..I think we need to keep this blog going or get each others emails, so we can do exactly that. Maybe one day plan on going down to Savannah someday! I can’t wait to go back. If I had the chance to go to a sunny Florida Beach, or Savannah.. It would be Savannah hands down. I thought when I was down there, how much fun the town was, and the night life. My brother in law and I stopped in the “Warehouse” I believe, and it was lots of fun. Then you have Paula, Michael, Jamie, and Bobby as a bonus!I know where SIU is, a couple of my friends have gone there. I am a barber, and cut hair for a living.Have 2 boys of my own, they are 13, and 10. I’m not married anymore. Tell me more about ya’ll!!
Somehow we need to get each others emails, so jamie and Bobby don’t get mad at us for using their BLOG! Hi Jamie, and Bobby. Brooke is beautiful, Jack is a doll. Bobby is a doll. And I love Paula. Michael, is a sweetheart!
By Angela Warner on June 12 2009

....so you rock the grass skirt and coconut bra....?
By Lisa of Minneapolis on June 16 2009
LOL well, I live in flip flops and tank tops, and I do have a grass skirt, but that’s about it. My ultimate goal in life had been to meet Jimmy. I tried very hard when I worked in radio, but never happened. I attended my first concert in Cincinnati last year and loved it. I just hope he sticks around long enough that I might run into him some time!

So Phil ~
What type of music do you listen to?
I know you have something on when you are driving around in one of your special cars.
p.s. Lisa: Classic Rock and 80’s - very fun.
By Lisa of Minneapolis on June 17 2009
Hi Deb M. and Beth ~
Deb - the coconut bra is the fashion statement for this summer - just add a margarita.
Beth - I’m doing very well. It’s going to be a busy summer; lots of deck and patio parties, playing in my brother’s brand new pool, cycling, fishing with the boys, mini-vacations (it’s hard to ditch out too long, we’re self employed). Pretty much anything and everything outdoors. We are all going full speed this summer because the last winter was so long.
My brother and I just made a pact - we are moving south in a few years. He wants to be able to golf most of the year. As for me - anything outside.
I just signed up for Get Cookin’ - which is a stretch for me - I’m not big on forums, etc. but it looks fun. Plus, I’m trying to find someone from a previous vacation. She was fun.
I hope all is well and wonderful in your lives.
Have a super day!
p.s. I’m an Elizabeth - I should be Elisabeth. Odd story how I became nicknamed Lisa
By Lisa of Minneapolis on June 17 2009
This is for Lisa or Phil - a question. When I go on the Get Cookin’ site and want to see the videos that are posted, such as the Race for the Cure one, how come it starts, then stops for about 3 seconds, starts again, then stops all the way through it. Never does it start and just keep going. Is it me or the video???
Jann
By Jann on June 18 2009
Jann,
It sounds like you may have a slower connection, or else a lot of people are trying to view the video at the same time. The video is hosted by YouTube, so if many people are viewing it, it will run slower. If you see the play arrow, next to that is a bar. This shows where you are in the video. You’ll also notice a faded red line. This is the download of the video to your browser. If you click the pause button and wait for the faded red line to fill the entire grey area, then you should be able to watch the video without any interruption. I noticed it was running a little slow today, so it seems to be a pretty popular video.
Let me know if you still have problems.
By Lisa the Admin on June 18 2009
Just left the Lady and Sons this morning.. Bobby is just as cute as he can be… bless his heart.. signing autographs and taking pictures.. Food was yummy ... chicken pot pie is to die for..
