seriously, we have not seen the sun in a week and the forecast for the next seven days is not much better. It’s been two weeks since we played our last softball game and speaking for myself, the rust shows up quicker when you can’t take the car out of the garage.
Okay, first things first....the grandchild joke. Some folks felt it was a little harsh but you have to realize we laugh at ourselves. If I felt like Bobby couldn’t stand the heat I wouldn’t invite him into the kitchen. He’s fine, trust me.
I will share something that will chap his rear end though.....he was the readers choice for most eligible bachelor this year in Connect Magazine for Savannah. Yep, another slow year for bachelors.....
Before y’all rise up to defend Bobby, I’m just kidding. I think it’s a pretty cool thing but I do wish he could meet the right girl, settle down and produce a cousin or two for Jack.
Y’all have questions. I have answers.
Hey Nancy, the menu at mom’s was slow roasted short ribs and rice with fresh turnip greens, baked sweet potatoes and a cast iron skillet of hot cornbread slathered with butter(real).
Sharon, the meatloaf recipe is in our book, Y’all Come Eat on page 51. If you don’t have the book let me know and I will include it in next weeks blog.
Deb, the People magazine is on newsstand’s now. It is the special country edition, whatever that is.... it has cowboy singers on the front instead of the “Jon and Kate” cover. There is also some behind the scenes interviews at the People magazine website.
Hey Sherri, welcome to my world of “Where am I going to park today?’. The best option downtown are the parking garages, the new one is right behind the restaurant and while it is more expensive than a meter at least you don’t have to keep an eye on your watch all day.
Hallie wants to know our best golf memory. Bobby and I were invited up to play a round of golf at Augusta National last year. Augusta is where the Masters Championship is played every spring, its the first of four major tournaments and the course is recognized as the most beautiful and historic of all. If anything ever tops teeing off at #1 with a caddie that looks ready for tournament play I can’t imagine what it could be…
Here’s something fun. We have a condo at Tybee that will be offered to rent during the year when the family is not fighting over it and we need a name. Y’all warm up the old noodle and shoot me your ideas. If you submit the winning name I will come up with some sort of grand prize. Think outside the box, have fun and fire when ready......
Thanks for checking back today y’all, I gotta boogie out to a photo shoot but always look forward to our connection.
do good
-jamie
Hi Jamie,
The thrill of teeing off at Augusta National, is hard to beat. Coming close would be teeing off any hole at Pebble Beach!! Very tough course, but the views are breathtaking.
Have to put on my thinking cap for a name for your condo, maybe I’ll be the winner. Have a great week.

Hey Jamie!
Rain, Rain, go away is what I had said for two weeks here in SC. We had so many little league baseball games cancelled, I do not see how we will be able to make them up before the end of the season, which is a week away! Please don’t tell me that they are calling for more rain your way, as we are coming this weekend!!
Thanks for answering my question, I will have to check the garage out! Hope to see y’all again while we are in town!!
If Bobby was to settle down, I think we would all go CRAAAAZZZYY!! It is fun to know that he is still single and ready to mingle, well maybe..
So about the softball game y’all have...where and when do y’all play, I would LOVE to watch!
Be good to Bobby Jamie and I will talk to ya later!

Hello Jamie:
Greetings from Illinois! I enjoy reading your blog. Writing for the first time...couldn’t resist putting my two cents in for “Name that Condo”:
(1) “Deen Digs”
(2) “The Mondo Condo”
(3) “The Love Shack"(!)
(4) “Jack’s Crib”
Had fun with this...hope I win! Would you kindly convey my greetings to your sweet Mama...would be honored to get the chance to meet her some day. Take good care.
By Rebecca Bright on May 19 2009
Hey Jamie..
I checked out that condo..your mom had posted the link on Twitter. Its so beautiful..the kitchen is just gorgeous..if I were staying there, it would be hard for me to go out to eat anywhere, lol. We have vacationed at Tybee for the past few years. I adore it and joke that I would move there in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we don’t think we are going to get down there this year. “Our” house on north beach is available, but with cut backs at work, we don’t think its do-able. I think its neat that yall will be renting yours out..just awesome. Let’s see..some names : 1. Paula’s Pad
2. Groover’s Grove 3. Paula’s Palace 4. Paula’s Place 5. Baby Jack’s Shack (or Jack’s Shack)
Thankful to be a part of the name game
Blessings,

Hey Jamie,
Please tell Bobby congrats on the whole “most eligible bachelor” honor! It does seem like he really does not need any help! I agree with Lisa, more girls will come out from who knows where....when all he needs to do is look right here at the blog!!!!! Am I right ladies?!?!?! lol
You know, Bobby, we all love you dearly!
As a nurse, I know about cures for chapped rear ends, call me if you need help!
You know we would rise up and defend you too, dear Jamie, or at least, I would!
I like the name “Greaseland” or the “Butter House” or the “Yellow House”.
Just like Graceland and the White House!
I’m going to look for the magazine after work today, hope to find it.
Hope the rain stops soon, I would hate for your rust to get worse! We are finally getting some sun here in Chicago.......I am now doing the Happy Dance! We did have a lot of rain tho, all of the trees are noe in full bloom!!!!
So happy you share your lives with us, we are so very blessed. It’s not everyday that strangers are allowed into some very special peoples lives and allow us to interact. You are really the very best that there is and I am honored to be a part of this blog. Thanks you so much.
Have a great week, and DUH!!!!, I know, as well as you do, I will write again!
Love,

Hi Jamie,
When I think about a condo on Tybee it reminds me of my business trip to Italy. I took the time for a side trip to the Amalfi Coast and two words always remind me of the beauty of being at the water. So if you want a little southern Italian influence to your condo here goes:
Paradiso - means “heaven”
Divertiti - means “enjoy yourself”

Very nice article.
By Nancy on May 19 2009
Thank you Nancy for the article link. We can all joke around but sometimes we have to be serious.
I just have to comment on it.
Bobby, I am sorry you let the person you should have married get away, I am sure it was someone whom you had dated for awhile. It is hard to find someone to want to spend the rest of your life with. I for one, thought I had that figured out, but turns out I think I was wrong, as things are turning to different paths and have been for some time. Sometimes that just happens. I am not “married” (even though I claim myself to be, just makes words easier)so that is a good thing in a way. I am sure there is someone out there for me and for you that we could share our love and life with. (Maybe we should hook up
) We just have to find them, I don’t want to force it, but I do go after what I want, it doesn’t always turn out for the good, but at least I try. (I am sure you could ask around to see what I mean. No Response)But you know, your mom has really shown me the light. Relationships do end and then begin again, and seeing Jamie and Brooke or hearing about them makes me have hope too. I hope you really do find love and for my part I hope I do too! You have to be careful Bobby, some people would want to date you because you are a Deen, and that is not right, but people can be deceitful. From what I have saw of you (the 5 min. I spoke with you) You are a generous, easy going person and you will find her. I promise!
Ok so enough of the heartfelt wonders.
Jamie, pass this to Bobby and in the mean time I am thinking of some more names!!

Hey Bobby,
Just read the article about you. I am so sorry that you let “the one” get away. Have you ever tried to contact her now? Some times situations change or the timing is better. If you think you could, you should try. There is nothing worse then never knowing, “if I only tried!” just could work out for you.
There is some one out there for you, I know it. You just have to look, or maybe, as a lot of people believe, just stop looking and she will find you.
I hope it works out for you, you just seem so down to earth and funny as hell! I know I would love to meet you! As would all women.... everywhere!!! She is out there, I know it. And she will catch you and make you as happy as can be.
In the mean time, you could write to us on the blog! It could help you pass the time, AND it would make my day, for sure! Is this a big enough hint?
PLEASE........ I will beg if you want!!!!
Lots of love,

Tough break with the weather in Savannah. There’s nothing worse than day after day of rain. Fortunately down south doesn’t it normally come in the form of a late afternoon thunder shower sandwiched between loads of sunshine? At least that’s what I remember from my past trips to Florida.
Thanks for sharing the news with us about Savannah’s handsomest bachelor. It was a nice article about Bobby but it did pull at my heartstrings for ‘the one that got away’. Alot of us have “been there, done that”. The right one will come along someday. Like Lisa and Deb said, the article will draw even more potentials his way - as if he doesn’t have enough already, huh. Next ABC will be calling him to be their next Bachelor. Boy, Jamie, that would really get you going with the good-natured ribbing. And we do know it’s all in good fun even if we say otherwise. Your contribution to the article is obvious proof of how you feel about your baby brother. Wonderful words like that pull at the heart, too.

Jamie,
I’m sorry y’all are having some much rain. We had a few days of rain and now we have lots of sunshine. I think it’s cute that you still tease Bobby. I thought that’s what all older siblings did to the baby of the family. I think Bobby should take some time and not rush into marriage for the sake of getting married.
I can’t wait to see the People Issue. How is the next book coming along?
Ideas for the condo name:

Pat of Butter or Pad of Butter

Hi there Bobby and Jamie,
WOW there’s a lot things to talk about this week!! First of all, the weather. Ohio’s weather has been gorgeous. Highs in the 70’s and bright and sunny. O.K I’m bragging. I took a walk today, and my hips and legs hurt. I think, I’m out of shape.
Congrads to Bobby!!! That cool about be voted the most eligible bachelor in Savannah. He deserves it!!! He’s such a great man! He deserves to find a nice girl and settle down. So Jack can have cousins.
Oh, the condo thing! Here are my names for the condo: Butterland and Deen’s Palce.
I think the grand prize should be, a trip to savannah and a date with Bobby. Everybody likes Bobby, especially me!!!
Well, I’m off to bed now. Have a good week. Talk to y’all next week.

We “SINGLE” people have to stick together you know...HA HA!!! I was wondering when the issue of People was available...I am going to pick it up before I head to work tomorrow. I am going to do some serious thinking about a GREAT name for the condo....and will get back with the winning name...lol. Anyway, sure hope it stops raining in Savannah soon. It has been raining here in Mississippi alot lately too. Have a great week. Tell Bobby HEY for me...thanks

Hi Jamie…
Came up with a few names for the condo-
Crossroads. While looking at the pictures, I realized that while we may not all achieve Paula’s level of success, we all have the potential to do so. A crossroad represents coming to a place in our lives where we can make a choice to go a new way or continue on the same way. Whether it be just getting off the path of stress and taking time for yourself or choosing a different way and changing your life’s direction completely. When your Mom came to a crossroad in her life, she chose a new way and I can just imagine how staying at her condo would encourage someone to believe that all things are possible and they really can achieve their heart’s truest desire. It’s NOT just a condo, it’s a source of hope. Hey.... Hope! Maybe that’s a good name!
Have a wonderful week.

Hey Jamie
Just wanted to say I really enjoy following your blog. I love hearing what y’all are up to. I am a single mom of three. My daughter Addie Rae is 18 and my boys, Michael and Robbie are 17 and 16. I do catering for extra money (now there are 2 words that dont belong together) You and Bobby remind me of my boys. The playing around, the laughing and the hovering around the stove.....I just adore it!
Im born and raised here on the south shore of Long Island and although Im a bit of a country girl at heart that longs to be in the mountains the shore to me always has a tropical, exotic feel. Im Italian/Spaniard, my grandfather was from Barcelona. Ive never had a sunner beach home but Im liking “Las Brisas” which means the breazes. Someday when I build my log home up in the mountains it will be called “Starshyn” which is a name given to me by a Napuchi elder which works out pretty cool because if you have ever been up north in the mountains you know that the way the stars are so much brighter up there is breathtaking.
Take care Jamie

Hi Guys and Lisa ~
I have to say, no rain yet - keep working on that, please. It will be very much appreciated.
We are parched.
However, thank you for sending hotter temperatures this way. No, really, thanks.
Yesterday was 97 and today is 93 and 40 m.p.h. wind, a little breezy. These are our August temps, so not quite prepared for it.
Oh! Just a little typo (apparently, I need to really proofread before sending).
The correct word is: women - not woman
Because there will be a gaggle of them writing, emailing (at least the lady and sons) and calling (I won’t - again, for emergencies only).
The names are hilarious. I could be wrong, but I haven’t seen one important name used yet. Hmm, perhaps later in the week.
Say hey, Phil - maybe you could get on the answers to the questions I sent....waiting. I answered yours. Fair is fair. FYI - these are not, repeat not, podcast questions. Thank you, thank you very much.
Little Miss Lisa, has been cycling most of the day (with that 40 mph wind) and working with 60 drama children (K-5), so I’m going to park my backside on my comfy couch with some lemonade.
Catch you later -

Hi Jamie,
Hope the rain stops for you soon. I wish you could send it here and cool our temps down. Really, Mother Nature needs to look at her calendar and see it’s only May.
Everyone that has older siblings knows all about the slapping around of words and jokes. It comes with the territory I guess. But not being the oldest child does have some perks. Kind of makes it all worth it some days knowing that I can still out run my older brother!
The beach house looks beautiful! My name for it would be:

First let me say the grandchild joke IS extremely funny and still makes me laugh when I think of it. It’s the same kind of humor we have in our family. There’s a lot of sarcasm and laughter along with the love.
Secondly, I know what you’re saying about the rain. We have had more than our share in Indiana but right now it’s beautiful and 77 degrees. They’re calling for rain on Saturday and then starting on Monday again but Sunday, Race Day here in Indiana, it’s supposed to be partly cloudy. Keep your fingers crossed! There’s nothing like the Indy 500 and if you’ve never been you should definitely go sometime.
OK, let me add my weak attempt to the others who have offered suggestions for naming your beach house.
1. Wave Front
2. The Pilothouse
3. Sand Tracks
4. Ebb Tide
5. No Wake
Hope you guys have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks Deb M! Even if Y’all Come Sleep isn’t the name for the house itself I think it would be a great slogan. Simple, fun, and gets the point across. For the restaurant and books it’s Y’all Come Eat so I thought for the condo why not Y’all Come Sleep! Hope Jamie and the rest like it too! Have a great day!

I’ve just been told they’re suggestion for the grand prize winner...a week’s stay at the house with a name christening party. Hmmm, some of us may have already gotten a start on the weekend. That’s what I get for having sons. Ha!

Hey Jamie,
How I miss living in SC! If you think the weather there is rainy, come on up to WV. My first winter back in over 10y and I ‘bout froze to death!
Lots of good name suggestions for the condo. I liked the Southern Comfort particularly.
Since I’ve never been to Tyree, googled it. Beautiful. Loved the lighthouse. Be awesome if one could live in that! Umm, something good that hasn’t been done.
How ‘bout....
Come on down y’all and stay at Paula’s Dixieland Delight Retreat. Relax in the Deen’s condo on beautiful Tyree Island where Southern hospitality still abounds.
